In 2017, Good Night Out Vancouver launched a survey for those who spend time in the Granville Entertainment District (GED), asking patrons to tell us what nightlife in the area really felt like, the good, the bad, and everything in between. This was done initially as a means to help evaluate our Granville Street Team, but soon became a helpful annual "temperature check” of what people in the area experienced and wanted to see in terms of safety in nightlife.
In 2023, we expanded the survey to Victoria and in 2024 we included Nelson since we are supporting a late night outreach team there. Additionally, last year we made some significant changes to the structure, allowing people to complete it as workers or patrons AND expanding the Vancouver one to all nightlife and hospitality in the city (the GED still has its own section though!)
We have been doing this long enough that we have some really interesting data around trends and perceptions of safety, and so without further ado, the 2025 safety survey is live! This quick, anonymous survey helps us understand what’s working, and what still needs to change, when it comes to feeling safe, included, and respected on a night out.
Highlights from last year:
Highlights from Vancouver’s 2024 Survey
90% of respondents said they’ve felt unsafe while out on Granville Street.
Over 80% of respondents said they had felt unsafe inside and outside nightlife establishments in Vancouver and Victoria
People told us they’d feel safer if nightlife staff had sexual violence prevention training, naloxone education, and discreet ways to ask for help.
Over 80% of respondents indicated that when a business has safer space measures, it influences how, as a customer, they interact with the business, with folks reporting they are more likely to tell friends, and spend more time and money there!
Your participation in the survey helps shape our programs and initiatives each year, so please give us a few minutes of our time! We have set out sights high this year, hoping to at least double the amount of participants!
The survey is open to anyone who spends time in nightlife and hospitality spaces in Vancouver, Victoria and Nelson : workers, patrons, performers, security, or anyone else in between. It’s completely anonymous, and every response helps us keep pushing for safer, more inclusive nights out for everyone. It is anonymous, but you can provide an email at the end to be entered to win a VISA Giftcard.
